The European digital innovation hub (EDIH) in the construction sector offers one of its most popular and engaging training courses on the use of drones in construction. Due to the high demand from architects, civil engineers, and designers, our hub is organizing a new three-day course titled “Aerial surveying, inspection, and monitoring with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)”, which will take place both in the EDIH training room and on a construction site in Sofia.
The training covers a wide range of topics related to the use of drones in construction, including how to create 3D models for pre-design studies, planning, and quantity surveying. The course is aimed at architects, civil engineers, designers, and technical professionals, with the minimum required education level being a technical secondary education.

The course will be delivered over three consecutive days, structured in three phases:

  • Phase 1: Theoretical module – Participants will be introduced to the applications of UAVs in the construction industry and the basics of drone operation. They will learn about the requirements for drone pilots and the specific features of different UAV models. The course includes training on the Pix4Dcapture / DJI Pilot 2 software used for flight planning, as well as an overview of how to create a preliminary flight plan with UAVs.
  • Phase 2: Practical Module – Participants will carry out a real drone flight mission, performing aerial photography and inspection of a pre-selected site to generate a 3D model for assessment.
  • Phase 3: Data Processing – Attendees will learn how to process the collected data using Pix4Dmapper and additional support software. The course concludes with a review and analysis of the results.
